About the event
A unique and rare opportunity to listen to one of the finest and most ancient musical traditions from India: Dhrupad.
Ancient Rishis (Seers) and Yogis have always used this form of music as a vehicle and tool to transcend into the state beyond the mind.
It is performed by improvisation according to the musical frame – The Raga.
The Raga is a specific melodic structure of Indian Classical Music which has musical and non musical features such as the time of the day, specific character, name and mode of the raga. That makes the raga an evolving entity.
The improvised expression is performed by movements from note to note, in between the notes and in developing the raga from slow free tempo to a fast one, like an erupting flow of a spring.
The concert will be performed in a musical duet by Simona Chalikovaite and Osnat Elkabir, both disciples of worldly renowned Dhrupad Master Pt. Ritwik Sanyal.
Simona Chalikovaite is a performer and teacher of Dhrupad Singing, Sanskrit, Vedic chanting and a researcher of Indian culture and philosophy. She was teaching Indian Classical Singing in Conservatory of Vicenza in Italy. She currently performs and gives workshops in Asian and European countries and is based in Portugal.
Osnat Elkabir is an Israeli singer, dancer, painter and theatre director.
She has taught music, music theory and dance at Tel Aviv University, The Hebrew University, Rimon School of Jazz, and Levinsky College (music therapy).
She has performed widely in Europe, Israel, and Asia.
